Macronutrients (carbs, proteins, and fats) in foods contain energy or calories (fun fact; correctly its chemical bonds that, when broken are used to create ATP)
This energy does keep our bodies running.
SO... Food is definitely fuel.
However, food isn't just that, the "macros".. it also includes micronutrients, phytochemical, zoochemicals, water, and more.
& these substances play a key role in our health and functioning.
Their dynamic interactions are critical for performance, mood, and optimal long-term health.
I am bringing this up because there is always a HUGE focus on "fitting it within your macros"; which is actually only a tiny part of the picture. When we fall on that we start choosing alternatives that may be calorie(energy) dense but are not nutrient dense.
Calorie dense foods are foods that contain a high number of calories relative to their portion. Usually from high amounts of saturated fats, added sugars, and other simple carbs. Most of the time they lack the vitamins, minerals, and other nutritional components that are necessary for our bodily functions.
Ex. soda, donuts, pizza, etc.
Nutrient dense foods contain lower number of calories relative to their portion and are higher in the number of essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, etc.
Ex. Fresh fruits & vegetables, beans, wheat pasta, etc.
Food is a lot more than what you think - the power of food; its packed with meaning, information, and communication.
I recently read this:
"90% of all disease is related to LIFESTYLE choices - the food you eat, the amount you exercise, the toxins you're exposed to, etc.
Only 10% is due to genetics
Genetics may load the gun
But diet and lifestyle pull the trigger"
Not sure how exact are those percentages... BUT I do agree that your diet & lifestyle may help pull that trigger.
So to bring it all back - enjoy your meals; but don't just put a focus on "macronutrients" always remember the other guys... your micronutrients.

Go prioritize yourself:
Your physical health matters.
Your mental health matters.
Your emotional health matters.
