I was talking to a family member the other day
& she asked how I was doing - so I let her know that I was frustrated & a little overwhelmed with our washer not working… she proceeded with saying “maybe it’s something electrical, so how are you doing, good?”
Just casually brushing off how I really felt … honestly, I would’ve never noticed that if I wasn’t working on understanding my own emotions and what not.
Funny - I grew up with that kind of brush off. So many of us did.
& if we wanted to talk about how we felt - if we were sad - if we were angry
It was always "it's okay" or "you'll be okay".
labeled - too emotional, not mentally strong enough, weak.. etc.
& I mean I still agree with the whole concept of moving forward, BUT I think you are WAY stronger if you learn to listen to those feelings. Actually feel those emotions.
Avoiding them might impede your own ability to connect to your needs. You learn from your emotions, they serve an essential function in connecting us to what is truly important.
Your emotional health matters more than you think - listen to your emotions -
- it can help in making better decisions
- negates negative thoughts
- will help you get a balanced mind
- makes you emotionally intelligent
So don't just brush it off, dig deeper.
Untangle those jumbled-up strings of emotions in your head & heart by lending your time.
& if someone does the brushing off - you can either bring it up or end that conversation (politely), you are in control of how you want to feel.

REMINDER:
Go prioritize yourself:
Your physical health matters.
Your mental health matters.
Your emotional health matters.
YOU MATTER.
